Montrose is a 1859 oil by James Drummond, a British Romanticism work, held at National Galleries Scotland.
This painting shows a man in a red cloak, sitting on a horse, in the middle of a crowded street. He's wearing a sword and holding a paper in his hand. The people around him are dressed in old-fashioned clothes, and some of them are looking up at him. The man on the horse seems important, and the people around him are reacting to him in different ways. Some look curious, while others seem upset or angry. The scene is busy and full of energy. The artist who painted this scene is James Drummond.
James Drummond FSA (1 September 1816 – 12 August 1877) was an artist and the curator of the National Gallery of Scotland from 1868 to 1877. He was also an early photographer.
