About this work

This drawing shows a wide view of a busy square with tall buildings, a tall column, and a few people walking or riding in carriages. The architecture includes domes, arches, and a mix of old-style churches and simpler structures. In the foreground, a few figures stand near what looks like a flooded area, with water marks along the bottom. The title at the bottom calls it "Piazza del Popolo," a famous square in Rome. The artist included tiny labels for each building, like a guidebook for the city. If you like this kind of detailed city view, check out Baroque art next.
