Lancelot Andrewes, Bishop of Winchester is a 1675 ink by David Loggan, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white portrait of a man with a serious face and a white beard. He’s wearing a dark collar and a ruff around his neck. The background is just a plain oval shape, so the focus stays on his face and hands, which are clasped together. The artist used lots of fine lines to create shading, giving the portrait a textured look. The name at the bottom says it’s a bishop, but the face looks calm, not stern. David Loggan (1634–1692) was an artist, born in Gdańsk.
