Sheep Herder is a 1908 oil by N. C. Wyeth, a American Impressionism work, held at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
This painting shows a man in a brown coat and hat, holding a rope in his right hand. He stands behind a flock of sheep, which are facing to the right. The man and sheep are set against a gray background with visible brushstrokes. The man's face is obscured by his hat and the rope, adding to the sense of anonymity. The sheep, too, seem to blend together, their individual features lost in the overall mass of the flock. The painting's use of chiaroscuro creates a sense of depth and volume, drawing the viewer's eye into the scene.
Newell Convers Wyeth (October 22, 1882 – October 19, 1945) was an American painter and illustrator.
