This is a late 19th-century photograph of Miss Lotta, also known as Carlotta Crabtree. Back then, actors paid for studio shots in costume—cheap, collectible cards for fans. These photos were albumen prints on stiff card, sold in sets. The Victoria and Albert Museum still holds this one. Cabinet cards like this replaced the smaller cartes de visite in the 1870s. Look up William Notman.
