About this work

This sketch shows a rough, fast-drawn group of people under a curved roof. The lines are shaky, like the artist was working quickly. Some figures are hunched, others stand, and the whole scene feels cramped inside the arch. The paper is tan and looks old, with a torn edge at the bottom left. The artist used only graphite, no color, and the strokes are light but clear enough to make out shapes. Next, check out the National Gallery of Art, Washington to see more of this artist’s work.
