Woman Reading is a 1634 ink by Rembrandt, a Baroque work, depicting Reading, held at National Gallery of Art.
This etching shows a woman in profile, reading from a book. The light strokes make her face glow against the dark background. Rembrandt used fine lines to catch her calm focus. He often explored quiet moments like this. In the 1630s, his etchings grew richer and more detailed. You can see his hand in every mark. Look for another soft, shaded etching by Rembrandt van Rijn.
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (15 July 1606 – 4 October 1669), known mononymously as Rembrandt, was a Dutch Golden Age painter, printmaker, and draughtsman.
