Battle between a Centaur and a Triton is a 1630 ink by Jusepe de Ribera, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This etching depicts a dramatic scene of a centaur and a triton engaged in battle. The centaur, with the upper body of a man and the lower body of a horse, is positioned on the right side of the image, while the triton, a mythical sea creature with the upper body of a man and the lower body of a fish, is on the left. The centaur is holding a club, and the triton is grasping a trident. In the background, there is a body of water with a few waves, and a rocky shoreline with some trees and bushes. The overall atmosphere of the image is one of intense conflict and struggle. For more information on the artist behind this work, look up Ribera, Jusepe de.
