H Beard Print Collection is a 25 by The Illustrated London News, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This print shows portraits of the lead singers in Wagner’s Ring cycle at Covent Garden in 1908. They’re arranged in order with decorated borders that picture four famous opera houses. The page was published by The Illustrated London News. The singers’ roles are listed by number, from Wotan down to Fafner. Printed full-page, it feels like a snapshot of a night at the opera. Printed portraits of the principal singers in the English-language production of Wagner’s *The Ring of the Nibelung* at Covent Garden are presented in a numbered sequence from one to fourteen. Each portrait is framed by a decorative background featuring depictions of opera houses in Berlin, Paris, London, and Vienna. The identified performers include Clarence Whitehill as Wotan, Edna Thornton as Erda, and Maud Perceval Allen as Brünnhilde, among others.
