A dwarf is a 1795 paint by Unknown, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This sketch shows two men standing side by side. The taller man wears a red turban and a draped cloth around his waist, with one arm outstretched. The shorter man holds a stick, has a blue head covering, and stands with his hands clasped in front of him. Both are barefoot, and the drawing looks simple, with quick brushstrokes. The taller man’s hand rests lightly on the shorter man’s shoulder, suggesting a connection between them. The artist included small notes around the edges, possibly describing who they are or where they were seen. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see this sketch in person.
The artwork depicts Ram Das, a dwarf from Maniknagar in Bengal, alongside his son, who is of average stature. Created in 1795, the piece is part of a collection of 49 watercolour paintings titled *Views in India*. The volume was purchased from Mr. T. Toon of Leicester Square on 4 March 1887 for £50, as recorded in museum acquisition documents.
