Blossoms and Birds
1625
From the collection of Cleveland Museum of Art
This painting shows a bird perched on a branch, holding a worm in its beak. The bird faces left, with a simple but detailed head and body. Around it, clusters of flowers bloom in soft, rounded shapes, and a bare tree branch stretches upward on the left side. The artist used mostly black ink on a light background, keeping the lines clean and the colors muted. The bird’s eye looks alert, almost like it’s watching something.
