About this work

This print shows a crowded ballroom in a London theater. Gaslights flicker on velvet drapes and satin gowns. Dancers in masks swirl under a painted ceiling. You can almost hear the music and feel the heat from the lamps. It’s one of many prints from a set called *Jullien’s Bal Masque*. The crowd is stiff and orderly, but the masks hint at secrets.
