Rani Lakshmi Bai is a 1885 paint by Unknown, a Impressionism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
A woman rides a horse, holding a sword in one hand and the reins with the other. She wears a red outfit with gold jewelry, a tall yellow crown, and a red plume on her head. The horse is mostly white with black legs and a black mane. This painting shows a strong, powerful figure—likely a queen or warrior. The bold colors and simple shapes make it easy to read at a glance. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more works like this.
This opaque watercolour on paper depicts Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi riding a horse, holding a riding crop in her right hand and the reins in her left. She wears a red outfit with a plumed hat, large earrings, bracelet, and necklace. The work reflects Kalighat painting’s characteristic vivid colours and swift brushstrokes, produced in Calcutta during the 19th century. Acquired by the museum in 1950, it was part of a collection inherited from a Sanskrit scholar at Cambridge.
