You see a king and queen sitting on a terrace while two bearded scholars work below them. One scholar writes with a pen; the other unrolls a scroll. This painting comes from a Jain religious book called the *Kalpa-sutra*. The scholars are interpreting the queen’s dreams, which predict her son will become either a great king or a spiritual leader. They predict that the auspicious dreams of the queen foretell the birth of a son who will either be a powerful hero and king or a religious leader of the world.
