Shepherd and Shepherdess (?) is a 1731 ink by Pierre-Alexandre Aveline, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This image shows two figures in a small scene framed by ornate scrollwork and vines. The man holds a walking stick and a hat, while the woman wears a long dress and a shawl draped over her shoulders. Above them, a vase of flowers sits on a ledge, and the whole scene is surrounded by decorative borders. The artist used fine lines to create texture, especially in the clothing folds and the natural details like the flowers and vines. This kind of precision is typical of the etching technique.
