Proxeneta is a 1650 unspecified by Jan Gerritsz van Bronkhorst, a Dutch Golden Age work, held at Brukenthal National Museum.
This painting shows three people sitting close together. The woman in the middle is wrapped in a light cloth, her skin glowing against dark fabrics. The man on the left wears a fur-lined coat, holding something small in his hand. The older woman on the right has a headscarf and rests her hand on the woman’s shoulder. The woman’s bare chest stands out against the warm, shadowy background. The lighting makes her skin look smooth and bright, while the others fade into darker tones. This play of light and shadow is called *chiaroscuro*.
Jan Gerritsz van Bronckhorst was a Dutch Golden Age painter and engraver. He is considered today to be a minor member of the Utrecht Caravaggisti.
