La libreria. V. [upper left] is a 1742 ink by Canaletto, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This painting shows a large, ornate building with many columns and arches. People in long robes are walking around the building, and some are sitting on the ground. The sky above is cloudy. In the foreground, a man is sitting on a pedestal, and a group of people are gathered around him. The building has a large balcony with statues on top, and the walls are decorated with intricate carvings. The painting is done in a detailed, realistic style, with lots of texture and shading. The artist, Canaletto, was known for his precise and detailed depictions of architecture and cityscapes.
Giovanni Antonio Canal (18 October 1697 – 19 April 1768), commonly known as Canaletto (Italian: ), was an Italian painter from the Republic of Venice, considered an important member of the 18th-century Venetian school.
