About this work

This lithograph shows four jolly workers stomping grapes in a wooden tub. Their faces are exaggerated and comic text floats above them. A dog watches from the side, adding to the playful chaos. Daumier often mocked society in his art. Here he pokes fun at rural labor with humor, not anger. The thick black lines make the scene feel lively and rough. Want to see more like this?
