Copy after the painting St Blaise led to Execution by Montagna in SS Nazzaro and Celso, Verona is a 1875 watercolor by Edward Kaiser, a Impressionism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a group of people in a rocky, outdoor setting. A robed figure in red stands out, holding a child while others in armor and cloaks surround them. The background has a small town with buildings and a distant landscape under a cloudy sky. The brushstrokes are loose, almost sketchy, giving the scene a rough, unfinished look. The colors are muted, with earthy tones dominating the landscape and clothing. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see this work in person.
An 1875 watercolour copy by Eduard Kaiser reproduces the scene of St Blaise’s execution as depicted in Montagna’s painting in SS Nazzaro and Celso, Verona, and is inscribed in ink with the artist’s name and date. The work was produced for the Arundel Society but remained unpublished.
