You see a woman sitting down, holding an open birdcage in her lap. Her dress is frilly and pale, typical of the 1700s. The birdcage is empty, which feels odd. This drawing uses soft chalk lines. It copies a design by François Boucher but was probably made by an assistant in his workshop. The lines are light but sure. Look for more Boucher drawings like this one at The Cleveland Museum of Art.
