Christ's Descent in Limbo is a 1470 paint by German 15th Century, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This painting shows a man with long hair and a beard, wearing a loincloth. He's holding a banner in his right hand and reaching out with his left. Around him are three people with worried expressions, and a large bird with outstretched wings. The background is yellow, with green leaves and red-brown details. The man's loincloth is dotted, and the banner has a cross on it. The people around him are naked, and the bird has feathers. The whole scene is surrounded by a border of leaves. The painting is done in metalcut, with hand-coloring in yellow, red-brown lake, and green. It's a Renaissance piece, held at the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
