Santa Maria a Cetrella, Anacapri is a 1892 gouache by William Stanley Haseltine, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This painting shows a small, weathered church clinging to a rocky cliffside. The building has arched doorways and a simple tower, surrounded by scraggly bushes and cacti. Behind it, a steep, rugged hill rises, and the ocean stretches out far below under a partly cloudy sky. The artist used soft, blended colors to show light hitting the rocks and walls. The brushstrokes are loose, almost like quick sketches, but still detailed enough to capture the texture of the stones.
