About this work

Look for Kirchner, Ernst Ludwig next if you like this loose, nervous style.

This is Kirchner’s sketch of two women in a room. The seated woman faces away, her back bare. The other stands half-turned, wrapped in a loose robe. The background is a storm of scribbled lines. No color—just ink on paper. You can feel the energy in the quick strokes.

Kirchner made this in 1906, early in his career. He liked bold shapes and rough lines. This feels unfinished but full of life. The figures almost blend into the busy background.
