青楼仁和嘉女芸者之部 唐人 獅子 角力|Seiro Niwaka Onna Geisha no Bu Tojin Shishi Sumo is a 1791 ink by Kitagawa Utamaro, a Romanticism work, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print shows three women in traditional Japanese dress. The woman in the back wears a tall, decorated hat with a flower on top. The other two hold fans and a small object wrapped in cloth. Their faces are simple but expressive, with soft colors and clean lines. The background is plain, keeping focus on the women’s clothing and faces. The artist used flat colors and bold outlines, a common style in Japanese woodblock prints. Look up Kitagawa Utamaro to see more of his detailed portraits.
