This engraving shows a chaotic scene with a fallen warrior in the center, his armor twisted around him. Around him, strange creatures—some like snails, others half-human—climb over his body. A horse lies dead nearby, and a building with a statue of a woman stands in the background, its steps leading up to a broken column. The whole image is packed with sharp lines and dark shadows. The artist used tiny, repeated lines (called cross-hatching) to create depth and texture. The scene feels like a warning or a lesson, not just a battle. Next, check out cross-hatching to see how this technique works.
