Children with Donkey and Dog in a Clearing is a 1825 ink by Pierre Parrocel, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This etching shows a group of kids playing in a wooded area. Some are sitting on the ground, others stand or crouch near a donkey and a dog. Trees and bushes fill the background, and the scene looks busy but calm. The lines are scratchy and detailed, giving everything texture. The artist used a technique that lets them carve directly into metal plates, creating the rough, layered look. This style was popular in the early 1800s.
