A saint in bright red robes floats upward, lifted by angels toward a golden light. Clouds swirl around him, and beams of light shine down from above. He wears armor underneath his robes, and his face looks calm. This sketch was a trial version for a church ceiling painting in Milan. The artist, Sebastiano Ricci, used quick brushwork to plan the final design. Even though we don’t know which saint this is, the scene shows a soul rising to heaven.
