Portrait of Sebastiano Ricci

Italian, 1659–1734

Sebastiano Ricci was an Italian High Baroque Italian painter. 67 works are cataloged here, principally at National Gallery of Art, most of them oil paintings. Sebastiano Ricci was born in Belluno.

Sebastiano Ricci (1 August 1659 – 15 May 1734) was an Italian Baroque painter of the late Baroque period in Venetian painting. About the same age as Piazzetta, and an elder contemporary of Tiepolo, he represents a late version of the vigorous and luminous Cortonesque style of grand manner fresco painting. He was the uncle of Marco Ricci (1676 – 1730), who trained with him, and became an innovator in landscape painting.
