風俗江戸八景 浅草晴嵐|Asakusa Seiran is a 1748 ink by Suzuki Harunobu, a Baroque work, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print shows two people sitting on a wooden porch. The woman on the left holds a fan, wearing a striped robe and a dark headpiece. The man on the right plays a small lute, his black clothes contrasting with the warm tones around them. Behind them, a shop with shelves of goods and a garden scene are painted in soft colors. Notice the text along the top and sides—it’s Japanese poetry, adding a quiet layer to the scene. The artist used a mix of flat colors and fine lines to create both solid shapes and delicate details. Next, look up technique: cross-hatching to see how artists build texture with lines.
