Ajdukiewicz employs a realistic handling of form and light, characteristic of his broader oeuvre that includes battle scenes and equine subjects. The painting entered the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw, where it remains on view. Ajdukiewicz, who trained in Kraków under Austrian administration during the partitions of Poland, produced the work during a period when Orientalist subjects were popular among European artists.

At the turn of the 19th‑20th century, European interest in Middle‑Eastern themes reflected both colonial curiosity and a romanticized view of the ‘exotic.’ Ajdukiewicz’s choice of an Arab figure aligns with this trend, yet his realist background grounds the scene in a tangible, observed reality rather than fantasy.

Although best known for military and equestrian paintings, Ajdukiewicz’s foray into Orientalism demonstrates his versatility.
