The English Mother is a 1830 by Unknown, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This sketch shows a woman sitting with a child on her lap. She’s bent forward, holding the child close, while the child reaches up toward her face. The lines are rough and dark, with lots of shading around their clothes and hair. The drawing is signed with a poem about motherhood, written in messy handwriting around the edges. The paper looks old and worn, like it’s been handled a lot. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more sketches like this.
