'The First Whisper of Love' by William Calder Marshall is a 1854 photographic by Unknown, a Impressionism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This photo shows two scenes of a woman lying on the ground in a wooded area. She’s dressed in light, flowing clothes, with her arms stretched out behind her. The background is dark and full of trees, making her look small and lost. The top image shows her facing upward, while the bottom one has her looking down. The lighting is soft, almost like a dream. A stereoscopic daguerreotype from 1854 depicts William Calder Marshall’s 1845 sculpture *The First Whisper of Love*, showing two mirrored views of the work. The daguerreotype plates are set within a black mount featuring two rectangular openings, which is then enclosed in a later passe-partout frame. A modern annotation on the back indicates the piece lacks its original casing and was rebound in new materials in October 1981.
