Untitled is a 1795 paint by Unknown, a Orientalism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a woman in Chinese clothing, standing with folded hands. Her long robe has bright blue and gold patterns. Her hair is piled high in a style Europeans called "Tartar" back then. People in the 1700s loved pictures of "exotic" clothes and hairstyles. Artists made many such paintings to sell to curious travelers. This one came from an album of 28 similar images. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more albums like this.
This painting depicts a Manchu woman dressed in a blue surcoat and a long white scarf, holding a pipe in one hand and a fan in the other. Above the figure are two lines of text, one in Chinese characters and the other an English translation that reads, "Tartar like Fair Lady," though its accuracy is not guaranteed. The work is part of an album of 28 images illustrating Chinese costumes, with the series numbered D.895-1898 to D.922-1989. It was acquired from E. Parsons & Sons and accessioned in 1898.
