Zhen Zhu lan is a 1780 paint by Unknown, a Rococo painting work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows two bare branches with green leaves and small yellow flowers. The branches twist gently against a plain light background, almost like they’re floating. The leaves are painted in soft green, with tiny buds and a few flowers just starting to bloom. The artist used simple lines and muted colors to make the branches look natural. The flowers are barely open, giving a quiet, peaceful feel. If you like this style, check out the Victoria and Albert Museum for more works like it.
A rectangular watercolour painting from 1780, rendered in subdued hues, features a grey branch adorned with multi-tonal green leaves and small cream-yellow buds, possibly representing the zhen zhu lan. The work was acquired from E. Parsons and entered the collection in 1889, as documented in the Asia Department registers following a 2022 provenance research project.
