This painting shows a group of people relaxing near a waterway under a big tree. Some are sitting, others are leaning or lying down, and a few are holding fans or baskets. The scene has soft ink lines and light washes of color, with a few bright spots like red flowers or clothing. Trees and rocks frame the edges, and the whole scene feels calm and busy at the same time. One odd detail: the person on the far right is holding a basket, but there’s also a small animal—maybe a dog—peeking out from it. The artist used loose, sketchy lines to show movement and life, not perfect details. Next, check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more works like this.
