This is one leaf from an album of small landscapes, each showing a different season in southern China. Xiao Yuncong painted these scenes after walking the same hills and rivers himself. The colors are soft—pale greens, faint blues—like mist that hasn’t burned off yet. He also designed woodblock prints, so every line feels deliberate, almost like a sketch carved in ink. Look up the Qing dynasty to see how other artists pictured the same rivers and mountains.
