John Constable made this print late in life. It’s a landscape view of the Stour River in Suffolk. The print comes from one of the biggest series of mezzotints ever published. Constable didn’t just paint the scenes. He picked them from his own oil sketches and guided the printmaker, David Lucas, every step of the way. This series helped spread Constable’s quiet English landscapes far and wide. Look up the Victoria and Albert Museum.
