About this work

This sketch shows two soldiers in fancy hats fighting over two women. One soldier is on the ground, grabbing a woman’s dress, while the other stands over them, holding a sword. The women look scared, and there’s a broken column and a tree in the background. The lines are rough and scratchy, like it was drawn fast. The soldiers’ hats and the tree look like they’re copied from real life, but the scene itself is made-up. This kind of drawing was often used to show moral lessons or funny ideas.
