A View in the Basses Alpes. is a 1830 watercolor by Joseph Mallord William Turner, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a mountain landscape with a river running through it. The mountains are tall and rocky, with trees and bushes growing on their slopes. The river is calm and peaceful, reflecting the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The painting is done in watercolour, with soft, blended colours that give it a dreamy, ethereal quality. The artist has used a range of blues and greens to capture the misty, atmospheric effect of the mountains. The work entered the collection in 1973 through a bequest from Dr Laurence Powell, following its prior ownership by Herbert Powell.
