One Hundred Birds

From the collection of Cleveland Museum of Art
This painting shows a lone, twisted tree with gnarled branches against a light sky. Around it, dozens of small birds fly or perch on the branches. The ink or brushwork is loose and sketchy, with some areas darker and others fading into the background. The birds all face the same direction, as if moving together. The tree looks old and weathered, with rough bark and sparse leaves. Check out Baroque for more dramatic, lively art like this.
