Turkish sultans, sultanas and other historical figures
1644
From the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum
This is a black-and-white portrait of a man with a big mustache and a tall, fancy hat. His collar is stiff and high, with buttons down the front. The hat has a chain and a small loop on top. The edges of the image are decorated with swirly lines and leaves. The name below reads *"Ibrahim Magnus Turcarum et Orientis Imperator"*, which means "Ibrahim, Great Emperor of the Turks and the Orient." This suggests the print was meant to show power and status.
