Vaisravana is a 1850 paint by Unknown, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows three figures in bright colors against a red background. The central figure sits on a throne, holding a staff and wearing a crown. Flanking them are two standing figures, each holding a staff and dressed in ornate robes. Above the throne is a small balcony with two large, stylized flowers on either side. The figures look flat and patterned, with bold outlines and no shading. The red background and gold accents make the scene feel formal and important. If you like this style, check out the Victoria and Albert Museum for more works like it.
The painting depicts Vaisravana seated on a lotus throne within a two-storeyed temple, holding a knife and sceptre while wearing a conical crown and jewellery, with a halo behind him. Flanking him are two attendant devas, and the background features a parted curtain matching the skirt’s fabric. Above the tiled roof, two white lotuses with yellow centres emerge, and a flag is mounted on the temple’s staff. The work is inscribed in Sinhalese on the mount as *Vaisravana Devaya Rajayasaha Maligawa*.
