This sketch shows a rough, sketchy riverbank scene. The water is drawn with quick, wavy lines, and the shore has jagged trees and scattered brush. The whole thing looks like it was drawn fast, with loose, uneven strokes. The artist used a sharp tool to scratch into the paper, creating dark lines against a light background. This method is called etching. Look up *etching* to see how artists make prints this way.
