Batjocorirea lui Christos (în registrul inventar: Batjocorirea lui Isus) is a 1607 by Annibale Carracci, a Baroque work, held at Brukenthal National Museum.
This painting shows two robed figures in dim light. The person on the left wears a crown of thorns and looks down, while the other leans in, holding their hand up as if touching their face. Both faces glow faintly against a dark background, with warm reds and browns dominating the colors. Notice how the light hits their faces and hands, making them stand out sharply. This effect is called *chiaroscuro*—a technique that uses strong contrasts between light and dark. Look up chiaroscuro to see how artists use shadows to create drama.
Annibale Carracci ( kə-RAH-chee, UK also kə-RATCH-ee, Italian: ; November 3, 1560 – July 15, 1609) was an Italian painter and instructor, active in Bologna and later in Rome.
