Devant le tableau de M. Manet is a 1865 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
You see three people looking at a painting, their faces turned to the side. They're all dressed up in top hats and fancy clothes. The way they're looking at the painting is kind of funny, which makes you wonder what's going on. The people in the picture seem to be reacting to the painting in different ways. One of them looks surprised, another looks thoughtful, and the third one looks like he's trying to figure it out. This lithograph is similar to work done using the technique: lithography.
Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
