Le vin de propriétaire is a 1846 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
Two old men sit at a tiny round table. One pours red wine into a glass. Their faces are lined and serious. You can almost hear their quiet talk. Daumier made this on stone with greasy ink. He pressed paper to it like a stamp. It’s quick and rough, not smooth like paint. This print feels real, like a snapshot. For more, check out Daumier, Honoré.
Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
