M'sieu, c'est une lettre de trois sous ... is a 1848 ink by Honoré Daumier, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This lithograph shows a worried man in bed while an older woman stands beside him. His face is tense—like he just got bad news. Daumier made his name with these sharp, funny images that also showed real human trouble. The woman’s stiff posture hints at money trouble or family stress. Honoré-Victorin Daumier was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870.
