Justus Lipsius is a 1591 ink by Bartolomeus Willemsz Dolendo, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white portrait of a man with a full beard and ruff collar. He’s sitting, holding a small book or paper in one hand and a quill in the other. Behind him, there’s a fancy coat of arms with a lion and some geometric shapes. The background is plain, and the whole image looks like it was drawn with fine lines. The text at the top says "Moribus Antiquis" and the name "Justus Lipsius" is written below him. The artist’s name, Bartolomeus Willemsz Dolendo, is signed at the bottom. This is an example of engraving, a technique where artists etch lines into metal plates.
