Willem Claesz Heda signed and dated the banquet piece 1635 on the edge of the white linen tablecloth, where an unidentified monogram, possibly a linen maker's mark, also appears. The National Gallery of Art acquired it in 1991, and the original unlined canvas still holds the sheen of glass and metal.

History & Provenance
Created in 1635 by Willem Claesz Heda, Banquet Piece with Mince Pie first appeared in a private collection in the Netherlands. In 1948, it was acquired by another private owner, and later passed by inheritance to a subsequent holder. The painting was sold at Ader-Picard-Tajan in Paris on 22 June 1990 (lot 39).
Following the auction, it was purchased by a consortium including Galerie Sanct Lucas (Vienna), Bruno Meissner (Zurich), and Otto Naumann (New York). On 27 February 1991, the work was sold to the National Gallery of Art, where it remains.
