This painting shows a chimpanzee sitting in a chair, holding a newspaper. The chimp is looking at the viewer with a thoughtful expression. It's sitting in a red chair, with its left hand resting on its chin. On the floor to the left is a human skull on top of a book. To the right of the chair is a table with a green cloth, and on top of it is another skull, this one of a chimpanzee. The background is a wall with a fireplace. The chimpanzee seems to be pondering something, and the skulls on either side add a sense of mortality to the scene. The newspaper in the chimp's hand adds a touch of humor to the painting.
